Find the school’s actual instructions

Look for the current device agreement and support contact for your child’s school. Identify the intended uses, account expectations, and any limits on installing software. Do not assume that a school-issued device works the same way as a personally owned laptop used for homework. If a feature appears unavailable, describe the task the child needs to complete rather than requesting a broad removal of restrictions. The school may have an approved alternative you have not yet seen.

Set the household’s practical routine

Choose a workable place for homework and a place to store the device when the session ends. Ask the child to show the assignment before changing a setting that appears distracting; the tool may be part of the task. Keep school work and optional entertainment decisions distinct. If your household also uses PARE, explain that PARE’s paired video environment does not administer a school computer or override the school’s account policies.

Handle conflicts through the right owner

If a filter, login, or application prevents a legitimate assignment, record the exact error and contact the school through its published route. Avoid sharing classmates’ names or private work in a support screenshot. Do not create a personal account or upload the assignment to another service simply to get around the problem without checking that this is allowed. After resolution, update the family’s instructions so the child knows the working route. A clear division of responsibility reduces repeated troubleshooting and protects the school’s intended setup.
