Find the recurring moment

“Too much technology” is hard to solve. Bedtime drift, repeated purchase requests, autoplay after homework, and conflict when stopping are different problems.

Pick the moment that creates the most friction this week. Describe what happens before, during, and after it without turning the description into a character judgment.

Change the environment first

Move chargers, disable a recommendation setting, remove saved payment details, or create an approved content queue. Environmental changes reduce the number of decisions a tired family has to make.

Choose one change that everyone can observe. If the rule depends on constant surveillance or perfect memory, it will be difficult to sustain.

  • The boundary is easy to explain.
  • Adults model the same idea where practical.
  • There is a clear way to ask for an exception.

Review instead of declaring victory

After three to seven days, ask what improved and what became harder. Keep the part that helped, change the part that did not, and avoid adding five new rules to compensate.

A reset is not evidence that a child failed. It is a family system responding to new information.
